      Hello,
Unfortunately the forum won’t let me post in the Surface RT/2 section, so I figured here would be the next best location.
I recently attempted to turn on my surface 2 and it showed a blue screen that had a sad face emoji on it that put me automatically onto a screen that said “preparing automatic repair”. Unfortunately, the automatic repair never works and the system goes into a loop of blue screen and preparing automatic repair. I’ve attempted the 2-button maneuver and the recovery USB with the 2-button maneuver but nothing is working. Microsoft had said it must have been something I had done to create a software issue but I only use this tablet for school. They mailed to my home address in the US their recovery drive but I am out of the country for medical school. I would greatly appreciate it if you could help me so I could maybe start using my tablet again,
      Best,
      Danielle

        Hi Danielle,
It does sound like you will need to reset\recover the machine. You can download the image directly from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/warranty-service-and-recovery/downloadablerecoveryimage
You may also try what they suggest here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-update/windows-8-is-stuck-in-an-automatic-repair-loop/2310c795-d39b-460f-9e4c-c95008e5ce51
